Higher MERV ratings in a standard 1" filter can restrict airflow significantly, increasing energy costs and reducing HVAC system life. MERV 8 is the airflow-safe sweet spot for standard residential and light commercial use. If your system specifically supports higher MERV, consult your HVAC manual first.
